Mike Johnson has led one of the least productive sessions of Congress in American history, and Congress has only had 87 voting days so far, on track for the second fewest voting days in history, only beaten by the pandemic year of 2021.
His one “accomplishment,” if you can call it that, is passing a huge tax cut bill for the wealthy that cuts social services, closes rural hospitals, raises healthcare costs for Medicare users, and takes away food help from homeless veterans.
But if you listen to him tell it, he’s just a poor, overworked guy who doesn’t get any days off because of the constant demands from his party and the constant problems created for him by Trump.
“I haven’t had a vacation day in two years.
I haven’t taken a break in two years,” he said to Stephen Miller’s wife on her podcast. “Last Christmas, I was taking calls from members with their drama. It takes everything out of whoever serves in the position — and by extension, their family.”
“Even when you think the work of the day is done and you put the phone down, it can be 11:30 at night — ‘ring ring,’ another crisis.
You’re sort of like a firefighter, in a way.”
Yeah, if the job of a firefighter was to set things on fire and fight to make people’s lives worse in every possible way!
Johnson went on to complain that people call him all the time.
“I think literally 100,000 people have my cellphone number,” he said. “The greatest challenge of my day is trying to keep up. Because I miss literally hundreds of calls and text messages in a day. The peril is, I don’t know how important it was, what I missed.”
Who knows how many lives may have been saved by those missed calls?
“Infuriating” doesn’t even begin to describe how it feels to watch the sycophantic lickspittle complain about how hard his life is when his party and the administration he blindly supports every step of the way is working overtime to tear down every rule that keeps us safe, every service that helps people get by, and dismantle every public institution that provides benefits for people while letting the federal government get looted by Trump and his corrupt allies.
So boo f*cking hoo, Mike Johnson.
If this is all so unpleasant for you, do us all a favor and RESIGN.
