A family in County Clare spent a lot of time making a huge protest sign in a field behind their house.The sign is placed right under the path that leads to the main runway of Shannon Airport.The sign says “F#@k TRUMP” in big letters, so Trump can’t help but see it as his plane lands.
The woman who came up with the idea originally wanted to protest at Trump’s resort, but she changed her mind when she saw that security would keep people away.
“So, we just said we’ll do this instead,” she said.She admitted it took a lot of convincing her husband, Paul, to help.
Another group carved a message into the sand on a beach near Dublin Bay.
The message is “NO KINGS — GAZA IRAN ICE” and it’s placed under the flight path of Dublin Airport.The message is meant to wash away with the tide.Uplift’s executive director, Siobhán O’Donoghue, said the message shows that Trump isn’t welcome in Ireland.They are against the war in Gaza, the conflict with Iran, and the actions of ICE agents who are breaking up families.She said Trump’s presidency has brought terror, destruction, and death, and he isn’t welcome here.They chose sand to show that Trump’s time in power will one day be over.
Behind the scenes, the police in Ireland are having a big problem.
Garda officers are upset because they were told to pay for their own hotel rooms during the big security operation.Some rooms near Doonbeg cost as much as $18,573.One person said, “There’s a use-and-abuse policy from management, and they’re expecting lads to just show up.”
The president of the Garda Representative Association, Niall Hodgins, called the situation a “shambles.” He mentioned that past visits by Obama and Queen Elizabeth II had the Garda arrange the hotels, not the officers paying themselves.
Some officers were told last-minute changes after they paid for rooms, and some are threatening to call in sick or not show up.
Meanwhile, peaceful protests are happening in Dublin, Shannon, Doonbeg, and Galway.
Organizers are promising Trump a very unwelcome reception.
