A Republican senator shared news about Senator Mitch McConnell’s health early on Thursday morning.
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) talked to a journalist named Nicholas Ballasy on X about McConnell in a video that came out just before 1:30 a.m.
He said, “He lives next door to me.
He’s still in the hospital and is doing rehab.”
Tuberville mentioned that McConnell’s absence might delay votes on President Donald Trump’s plans.
He was asked if he was surprised that McConnell’s team hadn’t released a video to clear up any confusion.
Tuberville looked directly at the camera with a tight smile, which seemed to show he was worried about the situation.
McConnell, who is 84, hasn’t been on video since he was hospitalized.
His team has given very few details, mostly the same statements over and over.
His long-time assistant, Terry Carmack, hasn’t answered many questions.
On July 12, the office released a picture of McConnell sitting up in a hospital bed with his wife, Elaine Chao, holding a copy of the Washington Post.
Another similar photo came out on July 27, showing McConnell smiling in a chair next to Chao, along with a statement saying he was “working hard to get back to my full schedule.” Still, no videos of him speaking or photos of him standing have been shared, which has led to more questions about his health.
Tuberville asked McConnell’s team to release a video weeks ago.
On July 21, he told Ballasy, “Somebody needs to come out and put a little video out.We didn’t get any information today in our luncheon.I don’t know why, what’s going on, but that’s not my business; that’s leadership’s business, and we wish him well.”
At that time, Tuberville said he expected McConnell to come back before the Senate’s five-week August break, which starts this Friday.
This week, he said McConnell might delay some votes, including the confirmation of Todd Blanche as attorney general.
“Some of them will be pushed to a later date,” Tuberville said.
“You don’t put one up unless you got the votes.”
