A sculptor who used $100,000 of his own money to create a big statue of the late conservative leader Charlie Kirk said he hasn’t found anyone willing to buy it.But a lot of people have told him they want to urinate on the statue.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed in September 2025 during a speech at Utah Valley University.
Sergio Furnari, an artist from Italy who now lives in New York, told the Guardian he made the statue using his own money.
It shows Kirk as he looked before he was killed — sitting down, holding a microphone, and wearing a shirt that says “FREEDOM.” Furnari said most of the money went to buying steel, resin, and paying for labor.
While making the statue, Furnari broke his foot after he tripped over a tape roll in his workshop.
He thought someone rich would buy the statue, but he hasn’t found any buyers.
“I was thinking it would be popular with people, but man, people are weird,” Furnari said.
“No one is stepping up to support it, especially financially.I’ve spent all my money on this.”
Instead, he got a lot of messages from people saying they wanted to pee on the statue.
Furnari said he didn’t really like Kirk.
“I wasn’t a fan of Charlie,” he told the Guardian.
“One thing I really didn’t like was when he talked about Palestine.He said, ‘Oh no, Palestine doesn’t exist.’ I thought, ‘This guy must be crazy.’”
He said his financial situation is a “total nightmare” after spending $100,000 on the project.
“People are cheap, man,” he said.
“You know, people talk a lot — I know a lot of people out there, and they’re all so cheap.It’s disgusting how cheap they are.”
