Belgium made sure Donald Trump remained part of the conversation long after the final whistle.
After eliminating the United States with a commanding 4-1 victory in the World Cup Round of 16 on Monday night, Belgium’s players celebrated inside the locker room by performing the now-famous “Trump dance,” with Romelu Lukaku leading several teammates as they laughed and sang along. Videos of the celebration quickly spread across social media.
The postgame moment echoed what had already happened on the field.
Lukaku celebrated Belgium’s fourth goal with the same dance alongside teammates, while Belgium’s official social media account added another jab by posting “Overturn this” — a reference to the controversy surrounding Folarin Balogun’s red-card suspension before the match.
Belgium delivered one of its strongest performances of the tournament to reach the quarterfinals. Charles De Ketelaere scored twice before Lukaku sealed the victory late, ending any hopes of an American comeback.
The buildup to the match had already drawn political attention.

Earlier Monday, Donald Trump confirmed that he had personally asked FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review Balogun’s red card from the previous match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Trump said he did not instruct FIFA to overturn the suspension but believed the sending-off had been unfair.
FIFA ultimately allowed Balogun to play, but the decision became a major talking point before kickoff.
Belgium’s players appeared to reference that controversy both during and after the match, turning the celebration into another viral moment as videos circulated online.
With the victory, Belgium advances to face Spain in the World Cup quarterfinals, while Mauricio Pochettino’s United States side exits the tournament after another Round of 16 defeat.
