On Wednesday, CNN host Kaitlan Collins talked about a surprising rumor about President Donald Trump. The rumor suggested that he was very angry about the low crowd numbers at his Great American State Fair. His supporters quickly removed photos that showed his anger.
Collins talked about this with Karen Finney, who was a top adviser to Hillary Clinton in 2016, and former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger.
They discussed how social media and news coverage showed that the fair wasn’t popular.
Collins said, “The president and his friends have taken over the event planning.
But when it comes to how full the crowd should be, they told me that the aerial photos from his rally last week made him so upset that officials ended up deleting them.”
The event in Washington, D.C., is meant to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday.
It started last week with a Ferris wheel, horse shows, and photo booths from history. However, these were overshadowed by images showing that people aren’t showing up in large numbers.
Trump has said the fair is “packed.”
Kinzinger noted that the event on the National Mall was organized by Freedom 250, an organization Trump created last year by executive order.
This is different from America 250, which Congress approved in 2016.Many musicians also left the event lineup in the days before it started.
He said, “When Trump took over, he created Freedom 250 and a competing group where donors aren’t revealed.
Many companies are trying to get his favor, and he’s clearly made this event all about himself.”
He continued, “When you make everything about yourself, and you only have about 30% support from the public, it’s not surprising when no one shows up.
It’s sad, Kaitlan, because I remember thinking about how cool the 1976 bicentennial was.”
Kinzinger said he used to imagine the 250th anniversary would be exciting, but it turned out to be a celebration for Trump.
Finney said the low turnout is a “metaphor” for Trump’s presidency.
“Think about how much money was spent on this event,” she said.”Think about what you could do with that money instead.I think about the reports about kids being kicked off SNAP and people losing their healthcare benefits. And yet, we’re told this president has made billions for himself.”
Trump’s proposed bill would take millions off Medicaid and create strict rules for the food stamp program.
A financial form shows he made $1.2 billion from his cryptocurrency business last year.
Collins has been treated harshly by Trump for simply asking questions during White House press briefings.
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman noted last week that Collins is “the only person really challenging him.”
