Rep.James Comer (R-KY) criticized Republican senators for not passing the SAVE America Act and questioned if they were too afraid to take a stand during an appearance on The Big Weekend Show on Fox News on Sunday.
“Are you that weak?
That’s my question to any Republican senator — are you that weak? Because if you vote for a valid ID to be shown when voting, you’re going to get beaten in your home state?” Comer said.“If you’re that weak, you don’t need to be a United States senator.”
Earlier, co-host Joey Jones had asked for an update on the bill, which would require a valid ID and proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.
It would also limit mail-in voting to people with disabilities, illnesses, or those in the military or traveling.
Trump has supported the bill and insists it needs to be passed before the 2026 midterms.
However, the act has been blocked multiple times in the Senate even though it passed the House.
Four Republicans — Sen.Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen.Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sen.Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Sen.Mitch McConnell (R-KY) — joined Democrats in voting against it last month.
“Unless Senate Majority Leader John Thune is only talking to House Speaker Mike Johnson, all I’m hearing from the Senate leadership is that they don’t have the votes,” Comer said.
“Not only do they not have 60 votes, they don’t have 50 votes — which I don’t believe.”
“Wow, wow,” Jones could be heard saying in disbelief in the background.
Comer then mentioned that polls show both Republican and Democratic voters support voter ID; a 2025 Pew survey found 71% of Democrats and 95% of Republicans in favor of it.
“I hope the Senate can come together and find a way to pass something that gives the American people confidence in the integrity of our elections,” Comer added.
