Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is taking a break from his show for the summer.Before he leaves, he planned a special goodbye present for President Donald Trump.Kimmel has chosen someone who has been very critical of Trump to take over the show while he’s away.
Jimmy Kimmel announced Rosie O’Donnell as the host during his show on Thursday.
He said that during his two-month vacation, the show will be hosted by different guests.Some familiar faces, like Anthony Anderson and Jelly Roll, will return.But one guest is especially notable because of their connection to the White House.
Kimmel said, “As a special treat for our commander-in-chief, I asked one of his all-time favorites, Rosie O’Donnell, to be here.” He also added a playful warning to Trump.
“And all I ask in return, Mr.President, is that you don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone,” Kimmel said.
Rosie O’Donnell has been very critical of Trump for a long time, even before he became president.
When she was on The View in 2006, she made strong comments about Trump’s past.She talked about how he left his first wife, had an affair, left his second wife, and had another affair.She said sarcastically, “But he’s the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America.” She also called him a “snake-oil salesman” for how he treated women.
The bad feelings are mutual.
Trump has insulted Rosie O’Donnell’s looks over the years.Their feud got worse in September 2025 when Trump posted a changed picture of her on his social media and said, “giving serious thought to taking away Rosie O’Donnell’s citizenship.”
Kimmel’s choice to have Rosie O’Donnell host is also important because of recent events.
His show was briefly taken off the air in September.When he announced his break, he mentioned the situation but didn’t go into detail.He said, “I will be taking the next two months off,” and added, “This time voluntarily.”
