Donald Trump gave pardons to the people who caused the violent January 6th attack, called them “patriots,” and even tried to give them $1.8 billion from taxpayers’ money. Now, Sean Penn, a three-time Oscar winner, is making sure America remembers what really happened as those people attacked the Capitol.
Penn is making a movie, which will star Bradley Cooper, that looks at the January 6th attack from the point of view of a police officer who was caught in the chaos.
The movie, for Warner Bros, is based on the life of Michael Fanone, a D.C.Metropolitan Police officer who sat next to Penn during the 2022 January 6th Committee hearing.
Fanone’s story is one that Trump really wants hidden.
He was badly hurt by the crowd, had a heart attack, brain injury, and burns, and was later diagnosed with PTSD.He was honored with the Presidential Citizens Medal by Joe Biden. And here’s the twist — Fanone used to vote for Trump but later stopped supporting him after seeing the harm Trump’s actions caused.
Penn said he was at the hearing just to watch — like any other citizen.
“We all saw what happened on January 6th, and now we’re looking to see if justice comes on the other side of it.”
The timing couldn’t be worse for Trump.
The movie is starting production in mid-2027 and will be shown when Trump is still defending the people who attacked the Capitol. Those same people were called “private militia of insurrectionists, rioters, and white supremacists, including those who brutally beat police officers,” by Rep.Jamie Raskin.
Penn has never held back when talking about Trump, once calling him “an enemy of mankind” who “might try to destroy the world before he ages out of life.”
While Trump is rewriting January 6th as a positive event, Sean Penn is showing the truth on the big screen.
